Harness Racing’s Future Bright - Menangle Park Paceway Grand Opening

Harness racing’s future in New South Wales is about to get a whole lot brighter.

That was the consensus to come out of Menangle Park’s Open Day yesterday (Sunday), May 4, which was attended by approximately 2000 people.

The Open Day served its purpose by giving the industry’s participants their first look at the new-look Menangle Park facility, which is 90 per cent completed.

Without doubt the one thing people came to see was the brand new, state-of-the-art 1400-metre racing circuit, and it must be said, no one was disappointed!

Designed and prepared by world renowned trackman of America, Dan Coon, the racing surface, despite not having been raced on yet, has immediately claimed the crown of Australasia’s best.

Not a bad word was said about the track, or the refurbished facilities, which include a new grandstand, dining, participants’ area and stabling. Horses were worked on the track for all to see, and quick sectional times were the order of the day.

Everyone who attended the day was left thoroughly impressed by what the NSW Harness Racing Club has achieved at Menangle Park, which has been closed for racing action for nearly a decade.

NSWHRC Chairman, Rex Horne, on behalf of his Board of Directors, promised to complete a state-of-the-art track to NSW at the start of his tenure, and they have delivered in spades.

The Open Day, which saw 2KY Racing Radio broadcast two shows live from Menangle Park, was nothing short of a success – no doubt about it.

Everyone who attended has given NSW’s shining light, the new Menangle Park complex, the tick of approval.

Attention will now turn to the official opening of the facility, which is set for Sunday June 29, which will feature ten excituing races including a record seven Group One races.
